We got checked in to St VIncent's Hospital in Birmingham Sunday night around 8pm. I was not dilated or thinned at all.
They gave me cytotec to help this process along-they gave me that around 9pm. That is when the contractions began-they were every 5-10 minutes. They checked me again around 12am and NOTHING. Then about 12:30am I thought I had wet the bed-yikes-the contractions were getting worse-I finally asked for some meds at about 1:30am. Made me feel ok but still had the contractions and had to work on pain management.
Finally Dr Pryzbysz came in around 6am to break my water and low and behold that was what had happened at 12:30am-earlier in the morning!! So they said all we could do was really wait until I dilated a little bit more and then I could have my epidural. GUESS WHAT I didn't dilate any more than what I was when Dr Przbysz checked me 3CM!! Oh that just made me want to weep.
At around 8am my nurse that I had requested came in the room and got things started right then-I got my epidural and it was going perfect for the next 3 hours-they put me on oxygen around 11:00am-not sure why. I was dilated and thinned but not as much as everyone was hoping. About 12:30pm the doctor came in the room and said we can start pushing in about 30 minutes. I was so excited-I could not believe it was about time. That is when things started turning around. The nurse that stayed with me-Teri-was checking things out and found some things that needed attention quickly. My contractions were starting to spread out a little further apart instead of getting closer-this in turn made Baby Braden's heart rate INCREASE RAPIDLY!
I saw the heart strips a couple days after he was born and it was pretty serious. Lil boy Braden's heart rate was elevated for a very log time and then when I would get another contraction it would increase even more. I was developing a fever so they took us to the operating room in less than 15 minutes after telling the family we would be PUSHING in 30 minutes.
I can remember the nurses and doctors running in out and out of the room yelling "FETAL DISTRESS" and I just turned and buried my head in the pillow! I cried and cried! I could care less about cutting cut open but I wanted my little boy to get here safe and not worry about anything! I wanted my mother-my sister in law had stopped by my room during all of this and was able to run and get mom and Janice. Brad and I were just praying that this was really not happening-when my mom came in I could not do anything else but cry. I knew every one was worried but we had to turn it all over to God. So Mom said "Mandy we should all pray together" So everyone laid hands on me and prayed-Dr Davis, Brad, Mom, Janice, and my WONDERFUL nurse Terri prayed a wonderful prayer over me and Braden. When we were about to leave the room Dr Davis looked at me and Brad and said-"We will not let this great pregnancy go bad! Let's do this!" So off we went-my family had to get all of our belongings because we would be on a different floor since we were having a c-section. Instead of room 310 we moved to 207. Here are some pics of what took place that morning.
First time we saw Braden!!!
Back in our room showing him off to family!!!
Brad and Meredith changing his "first" poopy diaper!!! I couldn't get out of bed-Meredith said I was telling them what to do each step of the way- wipe front to back-be sure it is pointing down-turn the diaper down so it doesn't rub his navel. Sad part is I don't remember a thing!!!
